Anyone want/need some green star???Bright green and long tentacle.
I'm in Louisville KY---freeeeeeeee!!!!!!!NO dealers please! Local only since shipping in the winter is expensive and I don't have the time. The thumbnail is a lot clearer than the enlarged photo. Marc Last edited by MISTERFIXIT; 07-18-2006 at 02:08 PM. |

LOL!
Note to self: trim the star polyps BEFORE they take over the entire tank!

WOW!
Here in Texas, us good 'ol boys would call that an infestation..... Anyone got a lawn mower? Better trim that 'fore it "gets outta hand".....

I keep mine in control by keeping the rock it's on fairly isolated and not touching other rocks on the sides (only contact with other rock is on the underneath side). If you do allow it to spread to another rock, and you move the original rock, *PRESTO* you now have 2 colonies of GSPs. It will send out appendages to the sides and even out perpendicular to the rock surface on occasion. Just cut those things off as close to the original base rock as you can. It won't damage the rest of the colony (for long) and you can sometimes trade the frags in at a local LFS for store credit. Or you can put small pieces of rock or shells or whatever next to the mother colony, and cut them free when they are well covered. I have enough frags per month that I am now my LFS's only GSP source, and I get all the frozen brine and mysis I want in return. Mine is bright neon green and its very attractive, so I don't consider it a "scourge", but it DOES grow fast in a well-kept tank.

the idea is to keep the star polyps on the sandbed. this will keep them in check before they grow out of hand.
