Question Montipora Digitata Frags?

Just curious to know if anyone out there has any Montipora Digitata frags or Green Hydnophora frags to trade.

Hi RudeBoy ~

I'm going to move this to the For Sale or Trade forum for you. The good part is that the redirect will remain in the Reef forum for a few days.

Regards,

Ninong

Thumbs up

Hey Rudeboy,
I just picked up two Purple and one Orange Montipora Digitata frags from www.rodsreef.com , they are killer! The Purple ones in particular are awesome looking. Everything that I saw at Rod's was excellent, I highly recommend him. Make sure you have the right lighting, he had the Purple Montipora about 12 inches away from a 400 watt Iwasaki.

I'm gonna check them out today, but, I don't have anywhere near the lighting setup that you do. I have Power Compacts (130watts) and I'm not sure if the Montipora will do well under my lighting. Any thoughts on this? I'm wondering if I set it about 4 inches from my water line if that would make a difference in the lighting it would get.

I have 2 55 watt PC's on a 26 gallon tank. I have an orange montipora that has doubled in 2 months time, and several species of acropora that are doing great. Noticable increases in size. Here's the thing, all SPS will grow much faster and color up a bit better under intense MH, but IMO all SPS I have tried have done great in my tank. By geat I mean - none have died, all have nice polyp extension, and growth has been seen on each one, although some are slow. FWIW - the montipora I think is one of the most forgiving when it comes to light. I say go for it, as long as your system is nice and stable (8-10 months old at least.)

Good luck.

Angry

Well, it seems like the new frag (Acropora) I added a week ago isn't doing too much. When I first bought it home, I noticed that there were very small little green polyps on the tips. Now, I see nothing but it still has it's color and I don't see anything resembling polyps at all. Kind of pissed about that. I know it's not dead because the brown coloring on it is still beautiful and the tips have a shade of white on them. And, it's definitely getting enough light . what do you think it wrong with it?

Make sure the Acropora is getting plenty of water movement. They can't get too much. Also make sure noone is picking on it. That flame angel may be a suspect. I had to pull mine out because he took a liking to montipora. Also give it some time. They may take a few more days to open up, especially if you have moved it once or twice? If not then I would start to wonder. I would watch your fish to see if anyone is nipping at it. Do you add any supplements or have a calcium reactor? If not I would highly suggest you start. I add b-ionic every morning and my alk and calcium levels are nice and high, along with a stable pH.

Good luck.

Well, I haven't moved it once since I put it in the tank. I epoxied it to a rock near the tok of my tank and it's about 4 inches from the top of the water. I also put it in the current of one of my MaxiJets. To be honest, I haven't witnessed ant of my fish going for it but I wouldn't count on it. As far as suppliments, I add B-ionic to my tank everyday. I'm doing 10ml of each to keep my Calcium right at 400ppm. Everything else is fine. All of my levels are great... I just can't understand why it's not happy. Would you suggest that I try moving it to my small 10g tank? I have 13watt power compacts for that and there are currently no fish in it. It will only house 2 clowns for the time being and be used primarily for a spawning tank. What do you think?

AMAZING!!!

You know, it's amazing what difference a half inch makes in a saltwater tank. I turned the PH closest to my new Acropora about a half inch in it's direction and BOOM! I woke up the morning and the polyps are showing again. I actually thought that I had enough current on it before but I was obviously wrong. I was getting worried!
