    Cool whammin watermelon zoas

Hey everyone, as I was doing a water change today I decided to frag on of my ver large zoa colonies, the whammin watermelons. I cut 13 frags all 10+ polyps. most are around 15-20 polyps and some are even 23-25 polyps. so i will start from the largest colonies and work my way down to the smaller ones in the order that I sell them. I'm asking $20 each + shipping. Im sure they will live in priority mail which is usually 2nd day, especially in this weather its perfect outside. so please pm me if your interested. I donthave pics at the moment but just type whammin watermelon zoas on google, they all pretty much look the same. if you absolutely must have a pic them just tell me you want one in the pm. Thanks Everyone!

    PRICE DROP

$15 each plus shipping is about $20-$35 depending on how far you are from nyc. I've sold one frag and shipped it priority mail and it arrived 2nd day in good health. and the priority mail shipping was only about 10 bucks. heres a picture of one of the frags.

A healthy dab of super glue gel shound do the trick. At least, that's how I mount my zoas.

    Re: whammin watermelon zoas

They will eventually attach over time. Depends on how fast they grow. I use super glue gel underwater but its a little more tricky to get it to stick well.I usually prime the spot on the rock by putting a good amount of glue on it and then spreading it around with my finger or a popsicle stick. The outer layers of glue will set immediately so make sure you spread it around real good. Then I put a glob of glue under the Frag and place it on the primed spot in the tank. I sort of twist the Frag back and forth until I feel the glue set up and then I'm good to go.

If they a are in a spot where the wont be blown around by the current, just leave them. They should attach in a few days to a couple of weeks.

    Re: whammin watermelon zoas

You should use the glue, otherwise they may blow away.

Anytime you are working with zoas, you need to take some precautions. They can and do produce powerful neurotoxins, so you need to handle them as if they we're poisonous...because they are. I would use latex gloves, and a full face shield. They are known to sometimes spit their palytoxins, (especially when you're cutting them) so you don't want to risk getting it in your eyes, nose or mouth. Where ever it is that you work with them, you want to make sure it's away from pets and children, and that you wipe down the area with soap and water afterwards, as there will most likely be some slimy residue left behind. Using the kitchen cutting board is probably a bad idea.

Now that I've put the fear of god into you, this is how you glue. Yes, you do take them out of the tank...don't worry, they can handle being out of water for a while, but try to do it in less than 5 minutes if you can. I like the gel type of superglue. Makes less of a mess, doesn't drip and run, etc...
Get your rock/frag plug ready and dab the area you wish to glue dry with a paper towel. Try not to touch the other polyps with the towell as it could irritate them. Next, dab a small pillow of gel on the rock/plug. Gently attach the base of the polyps to the glue and hold in place for 60 seconds. If they come loose, just repeat this process till they stay put. Try not to get glue on the necks and heads, as this will probably kill those polyps.

You can super glue the rocks/plugs to larger rocks in your display if you wish, but it's a good idea to let them accliate and grow out a bit before doing that. Reef epoxy is a little easier to work with for underwater bonding. The superglue will work too, but it usually takes multiple applications and you end up with a huge ugly glob of glue.
You may want to experiment with placement in the tank. Some zoas like more light and flow than others, so you don't want to commit too early.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I'd still glue them. It's not only powerhead current you need to be concerned with. Snails and crabs will knock them out of place, and fish swimming by will cause flow disturbances too.
