I've not read many others honestly, but I do like FAMA. It has some good articles. It is not exclusively marine, though. Haven't found one of those yet. HTH

Think of reading just as you would eating be careful take small bites and just eat the meat and spit out the bones. There are a few good articles in FAMA, however there are also allot of misinformation. Knowledge is built one word at a time. There is another called Marine Fish monthly which seems to have a little higher level of peer review but nothing like a journal would. Apply the eating perspective to BBS and in time you'll have a healthy knowledge of reefing.

Star,
Know what you mean. Got in on a pc vs. vho thread. You would have thought it was Christianity vs. Islam! Alot of opinions some of which are thoughtful, some dogmatic. I love picking at a good buffet, though. Gene |

Gene, the Christianity-Islam debate I can handle, it's the Judaism-Islam furor I can't stand. Anyway, I've newstand/subsribed to FAMA for about 7 years now, and I probably won't renew next year, MFM is never a mainstay on the newstand and they don't offer a decent discount on subs, so I don't get it any more. I've found that the nibbles on the bb are great once you have a foothold in this hobby. Bill.

I have a subscription to FAMA MArine Fish Monthly and Aquarium Fish.
On a scale of 1 to 10. FAMA - is a 4. A lot of rubbish and very little beside Ads but every once ina while a great article like the recent one on Gonopora. But for each of those you have to go through like 10 articles like the "Debunking Plenium Myths" which was so ridiculously horrible that I might cancel my subscription in protest. But it was written by a "Marine Scientist"- I wonder if his degree is written in Crayon or Majic Marker!! Marine Fish Monthly-1 or a 2 and I am being generous- I used to read this when I was in the hobby about 8 years ago, I renewed this year when I started getting involved in Reefing again without seeing the magizine in a while.. It has gone down hill and is worthless in my opinion. Please dont waste your money on this junk. The articles are less than college freshman quality in their Grammer and the editors don't seem to have any problems with allowing multiple spelling mistakes in each article. Bob Geomans articles and Q&A which I used to enjoy and get a lot of info from have turned into a self back-patting session every month where every question just happens to start with "I read your wonderful pamphlet and..." or "When will you next pamphlet be available" and ends in "You can find the aswers to this in my wonderful booklet available from such and such for this price." or " you should buy my new pamphlet/cd rom available directly through me next month." This guy has gone from respected to downright sceevy in my eyes since I have reentered the hobby. Aquarium Fish- 6.5- Best of what available. Articles are at least spell checked and gramatically correct. Pretty pictures and some good authors.
