Southern California sale.
Anybody here in Southern California want to split the purchase of live rock and sand with me? There is someone I know selling his 60 gallon tank setup. 80lbs of live rock, various corals, mushrooms, polyps, and 100 lb of live aragonite sand, all the snails and hermit crab that is residing in the tank. He wants it all for 1$/lb. But it appears he want to sell the whole 180 lbs of live rock and sand and that is too much for my 29 gallon. I would love to split this price in half or 3 ways. Total of $180.
Well here is the exact quote in the local newspaper. He wants to sell entire system for $400. But will sell in pieces if all are bought somehow: 60 G acrylic w/ wetdry, stand, canopy. Berlin HO skimmer, 100 lbs LS, 80 # LR. 220 W PC lights, corals, fish. Over $2000 invested, must pick up. Extra Text 3 large leather corals, 2 yellow leathers, watermelon mushrooms. Hamilton deluxe ABS Power compact hood w/ 4 55 watt lights. 2 separate on/off switches. 100 lbs of live sands (full of amphipods). Tank has built in wetdry at the back and heater, skimmer compartment. Berlin classic hang on back skimmer rated for 250 G capacity, pumps. Thanks Dat |

I am pretty much interested in the live coral and rock only, maybe sand. I just don't need another setup right now. No way do I need all the live rock and sand, just half. Like I said, he will sell the live stock and equipment separately if he needs too. The live stock would figure around 150-180$ and all the dry goods $200. That is cheap considering all his equipment probably cost a lot more.

Have you seen any of the stuff? Is it a complete set up? Stand, hood, heater... and is everything in good working condition?

I don't understand the "buit in Wet/Dry" part. Do you have any links or anything that can help explain this (kind of new at this)? Would the wet/dry take the place of a sump?

Let me know what you guys decide, I would be interested in getting involved. Poly- you could use that stand for your 55 or take the sixty complete and sell me the 55. Of course I would still rather trade you a stand for your tank. I will build a sixty stand tomorrow which could work for your tank and bring it just to increase options. I would be interested in lights, either tank, wet dry, and/or skimmer. Would also want at least a few lbs of sand just in case any creatures I don't already have reside. I could also take any excess rock or corals not wanted. We could all meet in LA and have "swap meet". I'm pretty flexible about who gets what as long as I get a dirt cheap tank out of it. I am free Saturday or Sunday but would want to know stuff is still available before making the drive. Will check back here tonight.

O.K. guys, I will come by his place to check it out tonight and give you more details. He has the add in the recycler here in CA and initially wanted 550-600 but he didn't sell it for a couple of weeks. I will give him a call today.
Thanks, Dat I think he is located at Riverside. His email is hawkfish001@aol.com and phone is 909-648-4215. I have asked him already if I can get other members to pitch in. He doesn't go online at these forums I think. |

O.K., I went by and check out the tank and it's awesome. Sand full of life with tons of snails and worms. Live rock completely covered with coralline algae and lots of critters. These are not small rocks but big chunks 20-30 lbs. There were 6 big chunks of rock. 3 of them were marshall, 2 fiji and I can't remember the other.
The tank is also awesome: acrylic with built on the back sump. It was actually a wet/dry filter in the back with bioballs and media. He has another 180 gallon reef tank but needed to take this one down because his parents complain about his electricity bill. The lights were 4 x55 power compact and has separate switches for the lights. Some guy offer him $200 for it but he couldn't sell it because of the live rock and corals in there. O.K. I will break down the pricing and you tell me if it's fair. I am a student and I only have $160 right now but I will like to get any combination of totaling $160. BTW, he bought most of his stuff online too. 1. Skimmer, Red Sea Berlin HOB orig. $219 including pump $40 sale $50 2. 4x 55 Watt, 2 actinic, 2 daylight. Hamilton deluxe hood with separate switch. orig $450 online sale $100 3. Black stand and canopy with acrylic seaclear? tank 60 gallons with built in wet/dry filtration in the back. This is an excellent setup. sale $110 4. Live rock attached to corals 5-6 separate pieces. 4 leathers and 1 mushroom. sale one big piece (20-30 lb) with coral $23 4 other pieces with coral $14/each $56 5. Live sand. He seeded this aragonite sand twice with IPSF? for $200 originally. Tons of snails. 100lbs sale $50 6. 100 watt heater sale 1$ 7. 4 powerheads (2 maxijet 900 and 2 rio 600?). All in good working condition sale $10 8. Titanium grounding probe (orig. $15) sale 2$ Grand total of $403. 3 extra dollar split for gas money. I only have $160 under my name (I am only a student). He will sell only sell this as a whole setup but if someone wants to pitch in to get to a total of $400 then it will be great. I don't mind getting all the live rock and sand with this price or maybe get the tank and skimmer setup. I will mix and match depending on what you guys want but remember we need to get to $400. |

If you think something should cost more or less then tell me. This is my first reef tank and I am just guessing. Like I said everything looks excellent.

I maybe interested in all the hardware, Tank, stand, skimmer... But my problem would be actually getting the stuff. I have a car, no truck and live in Visalia. Is he firm on the $400 or would he take $375-$350? Is the stand custom, basic, DIY...? You know...if I picked up this tank...I would have 2 55 gallons and 1 60 gallon, what am I to do? Yikes!

Assuming reasonable condition all prices sound very good. I'm in for
$100 to $150 depending on what I get, could really use that skimmer and maybe a p-head or two. Mostly I need 50 or 60 gal tank as sump for small multi tank grow out system, using his would be a waste so I'd just as soon have Poly's glass 55 but I will take either. Yea, tank and skimmer works for me. Let me know what you decide, Saturday am would be best for me. |

It's a nice custom tank and canopy and the power compact is great also. I would have bought the whole thing 1 month ago if I already didn't try to setup up this dinky 29 gallon I have. But it is my first reef tank.
If all the hardware is spoken for, I guess I will take the live stuff unless someone wants to buy sand and coral from the price that I suggested per pound. If no one wants the lighting, there is a guy on reefcentral and reeforg that has responded about the lighting and wants it. But I will give it overnight to sort out the mess to make sure everyone comes on Sat. or Sunday. I will try to borrow a truck if need to. But does anybody have a battery operated aerator just in case I have to help ship? BTW, I did bargain down from $600 to $400. But if you want to get down to $350, be my guest and see if you can do it when we pick it up. I am not a good haggler. Sorry. Last edited by dattack; 09-13-2001 at 02:46 AM. |

Poly- if you have car you can transport stuff no problem. I buy corals in B-field whenever I'm there. Both of you should go to fishing supply store, bait and tackle shop or even fishing section at K-mart. You can get battery operated air pumps (for bait tanks) under $10. Good thing to have around anyway. Bring cooler or get foam box from lfs, bags too. Is problem that you can't fit that 55 in your car? Tie it on roof and go s-l-o-w! Will check back on this tomorrow.

Poly, how were you and dave going to swap tanks/stand anyways? If this can't happen, I can rent a truck or borrow a friend's truck and help you ship to visalia but I would want some gas money for the trip or maybe something or a very small trade. I don't even know how far visalia is from L.A.?
Hey david, if poly doesn't want the tank setup. I can get someone who might want it or if you want it, you can have it. There is someone asking for lights now. Another for skimmer and powerheads and 10lb of sand. Last edited by dattack; 09-13-2001 at 04:36 AM. |

If I were to trade tank for tank, stand,...+$$ I would need a brother to help me out. I barley fit my 55 gallon in my car when I first got it, no way I could fit a 60 gallon with stand and canopy. Any idears? Open for suggestions. Depending on when this trading/swapmeet is going down, somone may not even need to go to Visalia, my girlfriend lives in Bako. Let me know what you guys think.
