moving from a 40gal to a 55gal
I'm wanting to move my current 40gal FOWLR setup to a 55. I've got a new DSB started in the 55 and I've moved 1/2 of the live rock from the 40gal over to it as well. My question is, will I have a mini cycle and should I wait to move the fish and remaining rock because of it. I don't want to stress the fish that's why I left some of the rock with them in the 40.
Any help is appreciated. |

I doubt that you'll have a mini cycle, if so it will be negligable. Go ahead and move the rest of your rock to the new tank, plus some of the old tank water. Actually, when I've re-set up tanks (a chore I've done several times), I moved everything including half the old tank water one day and the fish the next. Never any problem.

Sadly for my back, I have had to move my 90 four times in the last 1.5 years (my Chiropractor loves this hobby I bet!).
I follow the same routine mentioned above and have never had a problem with a mini cycle. Once the rock was barely circulated for a 150 mile road trip and I still had almost no cycle. -Patrick |
