Question Green water

Hello all;
This is long winded but I want to see if I'm on the right track--
I have had green water for about 3 months now. It is so green you can't see the back of the tank. Everyone is healthy but it bothers me anyway. The timeline is as follows, I have a 55 gallon with a 10 gallon sump, a turboflaoter1K skimmer, 2 175w 10K MH in a hood. Contents; tomato clown cromis a damsel scooter blenny 2 starfish and the usual smattering of cleanup snails+hermit crabs. I used tap water for quite a while (i know i know) and battled cyanobacteria for ever. I finally bought a 5 stage RO/DI rig and used it exclusively starting Jan03. Around May ish the water got the clearest it has ever been. That lasted for about 3-4 weeks. Then over about 2 weeks the water turned green and stayed there. I did a few heavy water changes but it just went back to thick green. Another weird thing, no algae sticks to the glass anymore( my magnet is getting restless). I'm sure it is just algae but I can't get it under control. I have an algae tank ready to go minus the Caulerpa in which I have to find a nice soul to part with some. Am I thinking right, or am I missing something else?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Have you ran any tests on the water ? If so what were the results? Here is a link to another discussion on the board concerning the same problem http://209.151.83.92/forum/showthread.php?t=7485

Thanks for the info, didn't find that thread earlier, which sums up my tank exactly. As of last week-; NO2=0 NO3=0 PH=8.4 NH3=just above 0 (sometimes hard to match colors) Alkalinity=normal (acording to Red Sea test card). I test about once a month, with usually very little changes.
