Pale Yello Tang

One of my yellow tang turns very pale. It's still swimming around but likes to hide behind the rocks most of the time. It's still feeding but minimal.
What's wrong? All my other fishes are doing fine. Is it down with some kind of illness?

What do you feed him and how often? Also how big is your tank and what other fish are in there with him. How is your water quality? Answeers to all of these will help greatly with a diagnosis.

Hi birman and Welcome to Reefland!

When does the fish become a little pale, all the time or just at times when it appears to be hiding or a bit stressed? it is normal for some fish to change slightly different shades when stressed or at night when resting however if the fish is always a faded color, I would say it is not getting a complete enough diet.

Regards,
Scott Z.

Hello,
I had a similiar problem and the HNIC at the LFS told me that this was a male/female (compatibility problem) and I removed the pale tang from the tank. I hope this works!
Worked for me.

definity its his diet, tang need a nice variety diet for herbivious. Best things you could feed them are macro algae, nori, formula 2, prime reef, or sprinia. If you are feeding him carnvious food and nothing similar to what i named above that is why.

Thank you for all your replies. The yellow tang is slowly regaining its colour. It's not showing any form of stress. It's feeding normally now but still a little pale. I feed it with a mixture of food consisting of seaweed, spinach, cytopeeze (i hope i got the spelling correct) et al..... with vitamins and garlic juice. Doesn't look like a compatibility issue since the 2 tangs has been together for at least a month with no problem.
Keep my fingers crossed. Hope it recovers soon.
