My Son Just got a Orange clown fish (Nemo) and wanted to know what to feed him? Will flake food be ok? if I treat him to frozen once in a while?
Thanks Tom |

Tom,
I'm sure someone who keeps clownfish will respond but in the meantime... Yes, flake is OK but you should not feed just flake. The more varied the diet the better. I have only two fish in my tank, one's a herbivore/omnivore and the other is strictly a carnivore and I feed a wide variety of foods. I used three different flake foods, two different pellets, one freeze dried (Cyclop-Eeze) and at least six different commercial frozen foods. If I had a larger tank and/or a lot more fish I would make my own frozen foods but right now it's just more convenient to buy a varied assortment. If you want your clownfish to develop a bright orange coloration, be sure to look for flake with color enhancers. Cyclop-Eeze (an aquacultured ten-legged copepod) will definitely enhance orange/red coloration more than anything I can think of. It comes in cans (freeze dried) or large frozen slabs. It is quite pricey but one small 30g can would last a very long time.

I have two Maroon Clowns amongst my fish. I feed them a combination of frozen Brine and flake food. I buy the smallest can of flake I can and everytime I buy flake I buy a different kind for , as Ninong said, I think the variety is good for the fish. They seem to like this method , as they have hung around for about three years now ![]() |

Formula1 frozen cubes provide a varied diet and are convienent. They also like small pieces of raw shrimp from the store. They can be trained to eat Nori seaweed also. A varied diet produces the healthist fish IMO/IME (my clown will be 8 in Feb.).
Regards, Kevin

My Clowns are almost 3...
My 2 year old has recently named them Marlin and Nemo... But they really go for Spectrum Pellets, and Nori Seaweed... Also the "green Food" from a LFS (I suspect something like Formula 2) And they have found a nice home in my Pulsating Xenia Colony!! Mike |

Clownfish
I prefer to feed mine Myosis shrimp on one day and on the following day i feed marine green a mix for herbivore and omnivores fish i would go as far to say that clown fish will eat anything presented to them but i really wouldnt recomend feeding flake food unless it is a real deal marine variety as it tends to be a bit high in phosphates and i just think its crud .
