So my uncle recently heard that dropping a slice of orange in his freshwater tank would make the fish really happy, so he tried and It has, the fish LOVE to eat the peice of orange. So here is my question, I also heard that saltwater fish like romaine lettuce, is this true??? I have 2 clowns, a blue hippo tang, and a royal gamma...would it be safe to try out??? I am currently only feeding them formula 1 cubes, and i have had them all for about 2 months, I really dont want anything bad to happen to my tank because I am so proud of it.

They may or may not eat it. The Clowns are not as big at eating thier veggies as tangs are. It wont hurt them but it doesnt really have much nutritional value for them either. A better choice would be Nori , found in the supermarket , in the Asian food section. Sea Weed Selects is also a good choice. If you are interested in supplementing the diet you could feed selcon enriched food (like frozen Brine soaked in it) on a regular schedule. HTH.

I have a pair of maroon clowns who won't touch vege food, even Formula 2. But the tangs and angels in my big tank absolutely love it. I give them nori, fresh seaweed and frozen cooked brocolli. The hippo tang should like green stuff, but Romaine lettuce isn't the most nutritious. Stick to stuff that comes out of the ocean. OK, don't get onto me about ocean-grown brocolli.
I was told about brocolli by the curator of the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay here in Las Vegas. My fish love it, but I always give it with nori or fresh seaweed anyway. ![]()
