Skimmer's Under 200-250$

I am looking to get a good skimmer from my 80-125 gallon tank. There will be just two puffers in the tank and hopefully a good amount of live rock and sand. I am also going to use a Emperor 400 powerfilter (its already running on the puffers smaller tank).

I am looking to spend hopefully under 200$ but I am don’t want to sacrifice my fishes health to my budget.

I would prefer to get a hang on tank style skimmer because of the ease of installation. I don’t want to have to drill holes in my tank or make a sump or anything, keeping it simple is key.

So what do you people recommend?

Thanks a bunch

PetGuys has the Protein Skimmer for 150g hang on from SeaClone for About 89.95 +ship+tax, about 107 - 110 I think. This is where my friend bought his. I bought mine at Petsmart, you can probably find it somewhere cheaper. But this is what I use and probably recommend. Then there's the Remora Pro, don't know how much, but it was recommended to me by our LFS. A bit on the $200-$270 range.

Mekong,

I don't believe a SeaClone would suit your needs: Seaclone Protein Skimmer AQ Systems

You might want to consider the AquaC Remora Pro since you are limiting your choices to hang-on models. It is in your stated price range, $208.95 here: http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...ory_Code=AquaC

I would strongly recommend against getting a SeaClone for anything larger than a 20-gallon tank. I believe the AquaC Remora Pro would be adequate for a 90 gallon tank but a 125-gallon tank may be pushing it.

I would also recommend the Aqua C Remora Pro. Get the Mag 3 pump to drive it though rather than the Rio. I have tested it at the shop and it performs quite well for the price ($229 which includes the pump).

Kevin

What do you guys think of:
• Red Sea Prizm Pro Deluxe Protein Skimmer
• Red Sea Berlin Systems (they have a number of them under 200$ including a hang-on-tank version)

Also how hard would it be to convert a non-hang on tank skimmer to a hang-on-tank?? Could I just have the skimmer sitting behind the tank and attach input and output tubes into the tank??

After extensive research, Ninong is correct.. Next month I'll be selling my Seaclone. Hate to find it like this, but what can you do? Thank you for having this forum, you really do learn a lot.

I have only tested the Red Sea Prizm personally. It is quite poor IMO. It was rated up to 100 gal tank. I would not use it above a 29 gal.

Kevin
