Question Adding fish too fast?

[color=Blue]I have done a bit more research since the last time I made a post about what fish I want to have... Right now I have 2 ocellaris clowns for about a week, 2 bubble tip anemones and a red brain. The store I purchase from says that as long as I keep testing the water and everything is fine, I can add 1-2 fish a week till I'm at about 6 fish at which point I would stop for awhile, besides the occasional coral and some more live rock. I've had my 55 gallon tank for about a month now...
The first week = nothing but live rock
2nd week = 2 emerald crab and 2 candy shrimp
3rd week = my 2 clowns and 2 bubble tips
4th week = red brain
The next thing I want to get is a yellow tang and maybe a flame angel this weekend... Whaddya think???
I'm wondering if you experts agree with the store that I go to that all is well with this method. I know that this hobby takes patience!!! Thanx a bunch!

Hi milliepooh,

I wouldn't put to much faith on what your store is telling you becouse they like to sell stuff and if it dies they can sell some more
I think you have answered you own question when you said that this hobby requires patience.Every time you add something to your bioload you have to wait so your tank can adjust( bacteria can adjust to your new addition) and it takes time.
Adding anemones to a two month old tank is just plain wrong.
I can give you one advice that is working for me very well, take everything that your store tells you with a grain,no make that a heap of salt.

Your tank should have been cycling for about 6 weeks or so before adding any fish and then adding one fish a month or three weeks is a good pace to take,IMO.

Good luck to you.

I agree with Zhenya , you need to slow down . If it were me I would not add anything more for atleast 2 months. Probably not what you want to hear , but I think that is better advice than you are getting from your LFS.

Here is 3... Wait at least a month between additions in a tank that is so new. Think of it this way, you have enough bacteria in your tank to support 2 fish, By adding another 2 fish your bacteria has to double to maintain the balance. Now lets say you had 6 fish and wanted to add 1 more, then by percentage the bacteria has to produce about 15% more of itself to maintain balance. That would take less time then having to produce 100% more right? So just take it slow, wait another 3 weeks, add 1 fish, preferbly the Flame (cause tangs can get kinda pushy) and wait a month and THEN add the Tang....

Thanks everyone... I really appreciate the advice. I already kinda told myself that I've been lucky so far (knock on wood) with my anemones and fish happy and water levels perfect... I'm going to wait till january for any additions... Now I am kinda worried though... Will the fish I have now be ok as long as I leave the tank the way it is???
Thanx again!

Most of the fish gurus recommend waiting about 6 months before adding a dwarf angel, since they require a stable tank with abundant microalgae growth.
