Recycle tank

I had a predator tank that went foul, brown and black mung hanging all over everything. I moved the fish out and now am trying to figure out how to get it clean again. Do I have to break it all the way down? How do you clean the sand and such? Any help would be appreciated.

Try vacuuming as much out as possible , while doing water changes. At the same time try to figure out what caused it to go haywire so you can cure that at the same time.you may have to take out the rocks and scrub them in a bucket of saltwater.

Trying to figure out what went wrong is the first place to start. Your findings should help you determine the best clean up method. If it is just a nusiance algae, tearing it down and starting over is probably the best bet. If the algae is caused froma nutrient problem, then cleaning the tank by siphoning and water changes and fising the nutrient problem should solve it.
