Lol

I used to have a Regal Tang that my fiance so originally called Dori. She didn't get along with the yellow tang so we got rid of her.

Talking Four Months Old

The tank has been running for 4 months now. Took my time and bought lots of live rock. I've got 60 pounds of rock for a 55 gallon tank. Also run a very good protein skimmer.

Nice Setup.

What does your lighting setup consist of? And are you using a Emperor 400 as your primary filter only?

Very nice tank!

I like how you have scaped your rocks, too!

I've been in this hobby for some time but got out of it a few years back and sold my 50 gallon tank to my sister-in-law and I'm wanting to start again so I got my tank back and need to know where to start, I'm also curious PRTSRV if you are running just the Emperor 400? because that's what I got at this time, I'm just curious if I should trash it and get something else. I don't mean to be a copy cat but if it's working for you then maybe it will work for me. what else are you exactly running such as protein skimmer and such, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks for the help, I just want to do it the right way the first time.

Lighting and Filtration

I am using the Emperor 400 and Prism Protien Skimmer by Red Sea. If you have a tank where you are experiencing a lot of the ugly green algae I suggest a Yellow Eye Tang. I got mine about and month ago and between her and about 30 hermit crabs they manage to keep the rock clean. I just need to add some turbo snails for the glass and I'll be set.
As far as lighting is concerned I am using a balist with two 36" High intensity bulbs in it. I've heard different opinions about lighting, some of which say that my lighting isn't good enough, but I've had a Red brain coral for three months and it's doing great. I also got the neon green mushroom coral that you can see in the picture and it as multiplied three times since being my tank.
I use all the proper chemicals to make sure trace elements and calcium and where they should be and feed the fish two small feedings everyday rather than one large one.

The lighting is probably sufficient for the corals that you have now; the statement of the lighting not being good enough is probably from SPS and clam keepers who, like me, use Metal Halide. I think as long as you stick with LPS and soft corals, you'll be fine.

KingNeptune,

As for the Emp. filter, I would trach it and stick with live rock and heavy protein skimming.

Scott Z.
