Stars and Stripes Puffer being Picked on?
I just bought him last night, followed the acclamation requirement. Dump him when it was dark and this morning at feeding time, my Butterfly fish and Wrasse are either cleaning him or nipping at him (I can see the skin stretch, so I am guessing they don't like him). IYO, should I return him to the LFS or is this a normal relationship?

I think you should give it a couple of days to see what happens. It is pretty common for fish who have been in the aquarium for awhile to "pick" on new additions. They're just a little mad "an outsider has come into their home" but typically will get over it within a few days.

I can't bear it anymore. I had to take him out or else he'll probably hide forever. It is weird the butterfly fish did not accept him as part of their community. I returned him today to my LFS and got something else. Hopefully this one they'll accept.

What else did you pick up?
How bad were the fish bothering the puffer? I like to give new fish a week or so to become accepted, unless however the current fish are beating it to death. Scott Z, |

Did you re-arrange the aquascaping before putting in your puff?
That way, everyone else already "in residence" gets their old territories broken up and it's a new tank for everyone. What kind of butterfly? What kind of wrasse? Rebecca |

Every time they see him, they are not beating him to death but it seems that he is really not accepted. I could not wait for a week and test it out so I took him out, i felt bad because he would really look nice in that tank, i know they grow really big. Quote:
Heinochus (correct spelling?), and a Cleaner Thank you for your response. I have one more fish to add and that will be the final one to complete the group. I may add another Tang or a Trigger Fish. I'll probably get him/her next week after my water change.
