Question What kind of “swimmers” do you guys have?

When I say “swimmers” I just mean fish that swim in the upper half of the tank. I’m getting a porcupine puffer but besides an Achilles Tang I can’t find another fish that I like. Just curious what you have and any pics of them

I'd say stick to Yellow, or Purple Tangs. They don't swim so FAST and seem to require less space. Stay away from the fast swimmers.

A 55 gallon tank isn't a very large aquarium. Your Puffer with another small fish would probably be the limit.

A porcupine puffer can grow to 18" as an adult if the tank is large enough to sustain it. It won't grow to 18" in a 55-gallon tank because it won't live that long. A 55-gal tank is much too small for an Achilles Tang, too. If you must have a tang in a 55-gal tank, try a Yellow Tang.

You really need to forget about fish that are not suitable for your size tank. I think Black Tip Reef Sharks are cool, too, but I don't have a 30,000-gal tank to keep one in.

my two "gonna be big" fish are a lunare wrasse and huma trigger. they're about 4" right now. also have a royal pseudochromis(dottyback), domino damsel, TR fiji tomato clown, and the newest addition, an orange tailed blue devil damsel. some might say that my tank is full or territorial fish, but everything gets along. everyone is intimidated by the trigger, but he isnt the least bit mean to anyone. the lunare and domino used to play tag, but now they're cool with each other. the royal psuedo has his rock work which he protects all the time, the clown just swims around freely, i always get nervous when he's near the trigger, but trig doesnt show any interest in him. the devil damsel is sort of new, so he takes some guff from the domino. but all in all, everything is great, plus there is so many spots for each, they seem to get along just fine. sometimes if i introduce a new fish, i'll get like 5 more pounds of LR to create more hiding spots.

i also beleive a 55 might be too small to house a puffer, i have an 80 so thats why i wont get one. i'd say a 125 or larger, something like 6 feet long. i know i'm gonna have to get rid of the lunare and the trig in time, but for know they are cool in the 80.
