Question will my tank survive?

hey!

first off, id like to know if my 10 gallon tank will survive for many years to come if i only have a penguin bio wheel filter, and a visi-jet protein skimmer(filtration wise)? ive heard a lot of people tell me to buy an expensive protein skimmer that is huge, and the one thing im afraid of happening is this huge protein skimmer/filter will suck up my fish. i mean this might sound stupid, but if you thik about it, putting a huge 130$ protein skimmer/filter on such a small tank, **** happens. thanks.

hang on the back protein skimmers run off of a powerhead that have a screen over the inlet to prevent that very thing same thing with the filter if its gonna be a mini-reef the live rock will be your filter no power filter needed just a good skimmer. i have never used that skimmer so no help there

My 30 gal reef tank at work has a similar set-up....power filter with a in-tank protein skimmer. IME, the fish mostly stay far away from the skimmer. I have a Red Sea Berlin Airlift skimmer on my 55 at home, which has a big intake, and the fish steer clear there as well.

Be careful with that external filter....about the only thing it can do that the protein skimmer + LR is some macro mechanical filtration, which if you don't rinse the filter media often can become a problem. I've had pretty good experience with this filter so far though, FYI.
