No ammonia spike???
Is that possible? I have put 45 pounds of live rock in my 29 gallon about 3 weeks ago and never really saw a big spike in ammonia. I added a shrimp about 2 weeks ago saw a jump up to about .25 and that was it. The rock was Kaelini fully cured. No smell, some green haired algae has been growing on rocks and glass, nitrite/nitrate both at 0. Wondering if I should go get some better tests. Right now I am using Red Sea but was thinking of going and picking up Salifert tests. Any thoughts? thanks.

It is definitely possible that you had a very low and very brief ammonia "spike" that you simply missed because it was so low and so brief thanks to your fully cured live rock. However, it is highly unlikely that your nitrates are actually zero. Try using a Salifert nitrate test kit and see what you get.
