Is this sufficient lighting?

Coralife Deluxe Series - Double Linear Strip with 10,000KTM and Actinic Compact Fluorescent Lamps, 2 on/off switches, 2 - 8 foot power cords for separate timers, 2 cooling fans (except #53100), built-in ballasts, sleek aluminum housing (7.25" W x 2.625" H), highly-polished reflector and acrylic lens cover.
What are the limitations? It has 260 total watts.

Can i set this directly on a glass hood?

Sufficient for what?

SPS- NO

Clams- NO

LPS- Mostly yes

Softies- Yes, probably.

Is that a T5. PC or VHO fixture?

Yes, that would be more than sufficient for a fish-only aquarium. You should be able to set the fixture directly on the tank's glass cover but if it seems to be getting too hot you could always use something to elevate it an inch or two. If the tank's glass cover is tempered glass, then you're good to go because it can withstand more heat than regular glass, but you should be OK either way.

Based on the width and height and the total wattage it can only be a 4' long fixture with a total of four 65w PCs, two 10,000K and two actinic, with separate power cords so that he can use the actinics for dawn/dusk effects.

Thanks, I was concerned because the aquarium has a plastic brace down the middle but I suppose if the acrylic lens cover is there and does not melt then neither will the tank brace. I was hoping this could be used for soft corals and inverts down the road am I mistaken?

You should be OK but watch it to see if you need to raise up the fixture a little. Fluorescent lighting heats up, too, but unlike metal halide lamps it is spread out and not coming from one tiny spot.

It should be sufficient for a lot of LPS and soft corals down the road.

Oops... Thanks Ninong, I just got it from the "new Posts" area.

Yes you can use that for softies, no problem. I had a 220 watt PC fixture for a long time and it worked well for Xenia, Anthellia, Hammer and Galaxia corals. I'm sure there are other Softies or LPS you can keep too. Just stay away from the Stoneys and Clams and you will be fine.

Cool Re: Lighting Question

I currently bought a 90 Gallon glass show tank. It came with a 48" light strip for 2 bulbs, and I replaced one with a Blue Moon since I liked the color it gives off. I was wondering what other light I should add to replace the one it came with. This is a fish-only tank and no LR or coral. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
