recommendations?
what do you think of this clean up crew.
12 Astrea snails 2 Strombus conch (i dont know common name) 4 Nassarius snails 2 Peppermint shrimp 1 Scarlet reef hermit I dont know the common name for the conch, but they're about an inch long. they're doing great work on my sand. The peppermint shrimp were there to take care of some aiptasia, i had one that multiplied, but they took care of them. I got the 4 nassarius snails and the hermit today, so far so good. I have 12 empty turbo snail shells from the trigger that the hermit should enjoy. I probably should've asked before i got them, but will all these inverts be ok together? the LFS said it'd be cool, and i dont really think there will be a problem, but i thought i'd get some reassurance. I might add some nass. snails in a week or 2, but my CPR HO refugium should be here monday, so i'll be hooking that thing up. let me know what you think, good or bad? the invert thing is a bit new to me, so if i'm making a mistake let me know. thanks Leddy also, suggestions would be great. thanks Last edited by Leddy; 04-02-2004 at 10:47 PM. |

I think that's a nice addition, maybe without the hermit. More Nassarius Snails will be good too.

i was questioning the hermit myself. you think its no good? possible trouble? what about an emerald crab instead? i have all these empty shells in there, so i thought 1 hermit would be ok. i'll see how its doing after a week or so. as for the nassarius snails, they're cool. at the moment they're buried in the sand with just their trunks out, characters man. i'd like to have 8 or so of them. if i was to go hermit-less, what inverts would be good (crabs/snails/shrimp/etc)?
as for the fuge, what should i put in there? i was thinking some live sand, maybe some miracle mud, some LR from my tank (crawling with critters), and some macro. thanks Leddy |

Sounds like a good mix for your refugium. As for inverts in the tank, a few varieties of snails and a couple of cleaner shrimp sound good to me.

the cleaner shrimp are for sure, but not untill may or so, before i get fish. i'd like to see them set up little cleaning stations, should be interesting. i'm pumped about the fuge going on my tank. thanks for the replies.

you really think the scarlet is a bad idea? it hasnt really done much so far, so i may bring it up the road to the LFS. i think i'll just end up going the snail route, since they're doing excellent work on my cyano and green hair algae.
how are cerith snails? bumblebee snails?(yellow/black) i'll probly take the hermit back, pick up 4 or 6 more nassarius snails in the middle of the week. i dont want to hermit snacking on any of the snails, so if its not needed, i'll swap it for something else. Thanks for the replies Leddy |
