Question 55 gallon vs. 75 gallon tank?

I'm in the process of deciding which tank would be better to start my fish only live rock tank. I've been doing a lot of reseach on the internat and have read Michael Palette's book The New Marine Aquarium. I'm not sure if I should go with a 55 gallon or 75 gallon tank.

For the additional money should I go for the 75 or just start with the 55? In the long term (2 years) I would like to add coral to the tank.

    All advise is appreciated.

I would go with the 75. The 75 will be deeper from front to back, which will make aquascaping easier. You will end up with the dreaded "wall of rock" in a 55.

    Hi JST, Welcome to Reefland!

Yes, the 75 gallon is definitely worth the extra money. The extra depth makes a world of difference in the overall appearance of the aquarium.

75 hands down. That extra few inches of depth is worth the extra loot for sure. I have an 80, which is only an inch or two taller than a 75, i'm not quite sure, but its an awesome tank.

75G no doubt! I just purchased a 90G a month ago, and now I wish I would have went with something bigger like a 180G. People always say if you get into this hobby, spec the equipment out as if it you are going to build a large reef system - eventually one will want it. I originally wanted a FO tank, but now I want a FOWLR tank..then it will be a reef! It never ends!
