Normal for Tang?
I got up this morning and my Tang had a white stripe down the side. Is this normal? I was at the zoo the other day and they said that fish change color with their mood. I thought they said something about their fish getting a stripe, but now I can't remember. They were doing a diving display and feeding the fish, so I was watching that.
Thanks, Rob |

Yup I see that stripe on my tang every morning... Mine is big fat and HEALTHY!!!
However looking at the picture yours is rather skinny... I would go buy some Dried NORI seaweed from an Asian food store, my tang loves the stuff. Also that particular fish looks rather larger for your tank... Make sure to give him plenty of greens and if possible upgrade to a larger tank as soon as you can. I just got him this weekend. He hasn't really eaten a lot yet, but he seems pretty happy. I have some seaweed from the LFS and he ate a little of it. I think he's just getting used to the new environment. I'll try and faten him up some.
He's only about 4 inches long. I would think 90 gallons would be plenty for a fish that size. The tank is also 6 feet long, so it's a pretty good swim from end to end. Right now there is a Sebea Clown, a Blue Damsel and a Velvet Damsel in with him. Also 2 anemones and a purple clawed crab. I think the crab is the coolest thing. So for now I'll have to disagree with the just say no to crabs thing. I got a peppermint shrimp and he died while I had him in a bucket adding tank water to the mix. Are they that fragile? I would like to have a bunch of shrimp and crabs in the tank, but after $15 down the drain for that shrimp I'm a little scared. The people at the fish store said 15 minutes to get the temp right and toss him in the tank. That's not what I've heard from most people. Any advice? |
