Air bubbles

I have a 90 gallon that will be mostly fish. 4 fish, 2 anemones and a crab right now. I have the protien skimmer in the sump. It seems to be taking out a lot of stuff. I don't have anything to compare to, but I take out nasty water every couple days. Since the skimmer is in the sump, the water I am pumping back has some small bubbles in it. Is this a problem? I wouldn't think it would make much difference other than I can see the bubbles in the tank, but I don't know.
Thanks,
Rob

As far as I know, it's not a big deal other than aesthetically. If you really want to remove the bubbles, you could add a baffle to the sump between the skimmer outlet and the return pump inlet to try and cut down on them getting back into the main tank.

The bubbles will not do any harm but they sure are annoying. You could baffle your sump with a few pieces of plexiglass. allow the water to flow over one, under the next etc which will diffuse the bubbles. In the past,I have simply used a foam block from a hang on filter & set it underneath the skimmer "output" and that does the trick.

The foam sounds like a good idea. Right now it spills into the sump and makes a lot of noise. I was going to try and cut the noise down somehow and the foam idea sounds like a really good one for both problems. There is a big block of blue foam in my sump. Does anyone know where I could by a big block of this foam that I could cut into a desireabale shape? If I could make the water run down a peice of foam, that would work great.
Thanks Mark and Steve,
Rob

You could simply buy a foam replacement for an Aquaclear 500. They are about 10'' x 3'' .

That might work. I would like to have it go all the way to the skimmer spout. That would be about 15 inches from the base. Then it would be easy to wedge into place and have it stay. I'll have to take some measurements.

I got some 4" cubes of foam from http://www.angelsplus.com. I stacked them up till they reached the outlet of skimmer. Then cut a groove in foam for the water to flow into. This has made a great improvement in both things I was looking for. There is no splash so it is about silent compared to what it was. All the bubbles have gone away, so the tank seems much cleaner. I know it's not, but it looks much better. I also upgraded my lights, and that made a big improvement. Should have a huge algae bloom from all the light today or tomorrow. Can't wait to clean that up.
