HI,

I plan to buy live sand for my 55 gal tank but I don't know how much to order. can some one please tell me how much I need? I went to the tampa bay web site and the have there live sand for 2.00 per lb. Also are there any other sites that I can order live sand?

I would buy some sand , maybe a pound or two from as many different sources as you can . This will increase the diversity of your sand bed . I would use the live sands for seeding your new sand bed. It will be much more cost effective than trying to build a sand bed out of live sand.

I love TBS, good people and great stuff and service. In this case I would use Play sand from Lowe's or Home Depot and seed it with live sand. You only need a few cups of Live sand. As Blue Tuna says get seed sand from many different places. TBS is a good place to get it, but if you are only getting the live sand shipped the shipping will kill you. Try to fine a local SW Aquarium Group. The members will proably supply you with seed sand from a number of different tanks.
