I dont think you need a dual overflow as depicted in the first link. that has around a 1000gph flow rating. I have never seen the second one before so I cannot comment on it. something like the first one but with 1 bulkhead instead of 2 would be perfect for your tank.

The first one looks like a better overflow, the second looks like a CPR. But the thing is, who really cares what they look like? What we need to know is how they function and unfortunately, that is one thing that we cannot determine by a picture. If it were me and I needed an overflow box, I would get a LifeReef no questions asked. Sure they are a bit pricey but for the peace of mind, very well worth it.

    If it leaks.

Give it a go on the bidding, I wouldn't go over $50 for a used one though.

    I purchased the DUAL Overflow...

I purchased one of those DUAL overflows rated for 1000GPH just a couple months ago from that guy.

It does NOT run at 1000GPH, more like 600 - 800 GPH MAX. It was also very noisy. I modified mine with (2) Stockman's and changed the (1) U-tube to a big 1.5" Tube then I got 1200GPH out of it. It is also completely quiet now. I also got rid of the foam since I put Stockman's on it.

What exactly is a "Stockmans" and where would one go about getting them? Also, where would you get a larger U-tube? Thanks.

The one on Ebay, the Life Reef Knockoff. It has the (2) flex hoses (1.25") that connects to the (2) 1" Drains. The design draws in too much air from the drain openings and the foam slows the water flow down too much. Also the 1 1/8" U tubes were too short to get good water flow. It also made the same sound as my bathtub draining all the time. So I made a couple of Stockman's, cost about $4.00 ea. and took about 30 mins. The I purchased (2) 1.5" 90's and some 1.5" PVC pipe and made a 1.5" U tube. Now the thing is quiet and drains very fast. It might even be faster than 1200 Gph, my MAG 18 is running full open with no problems. Best guess with head loss is 1200 - 1300 GPH

I would much MUCH appreciate it ... and I'm betting others would too... Prolly should post it in the DIY tho, if you would

I would go with the LifeReef and if necessary, use a stockman pipe to silence it.

This should be plenty helpfull. Like I said cost is about $4.00 and takes about 30 mins to make. You will need a dremel/rotozip tool to modify some of the PVC piping.
