Liveaquaria.com has some Fiji rock on sale: 45lbs. @ $99.00. That is a pretty good deal there.

Salttanker, but isn't it true that you can only place about 1 1/2 pounds per gallon in a tank? But Liveaquaria is the best place for Live Rock.

Some people use 2lbs. per gallon. I use 1 1/2lbs per gallon so my friends will have space to swim. I just figured I would point you there since I ran across it today. If I had the room, I would buy more.

You CAN put as much rock as you can fit in your tank... most don't for aesthetic reasons tho (no room for other things if your tank is completely filled with rock) and also circulation becomes difficult... the estimation of 1-2lbs per gallon is also assuming average density of the rock, which is not always the case. Some rock is very dense and heavy, while some is very open and airy (this being the more desirable type, because it offers much more surface area for bacterial colonization) So, in essence, the more the better, until it starts looking like "Too" much. Also, people who keep large fish tend to stay on the lower side of the estimate, so there is more swimming room, and people who keep only corals or corals and small fish will probably use more (more ledges and spaces to put corals)..... Alot of it is all about personal preference.

i think the best method of live rock determining.. is.. to, make your tank look the way you want it.... if you want a full wall..... islands, reef ledge, etc.........
then when you have that you can determine your bio load, along with what filtration you may need or want to use.....
I am not a failure! I have just found 10,000 ways to do it wrong!

Something else to keep in mind , your rock does not need to be in your display tank to function as a bio filter. Many people have little rock in the tank , but have as much as they can fit in thier sump.Just another option To answer the original question though , you can get good rock at several online dealers . First you need to decide what kind of rock you want .
In this hobby patience is not a virtue,,,,,its mandatory.
