    White Spots.

I'm sure every idiot on the board asks this, so let me be idiot +1. Yesterday i had a nice healthy tank and decided to do a water change since it had been about 2 weeks. its a 20 gal tank so i did about 7 gallons. All my fish were moving this morning and looked ok. I just came home from work and found my flame angel dead as a log and my parrot fish covered in white spots.
Now i'm sure those weren't there yesterday so it has to be something with my water quality changing. i did a water test and got a ph 8.4 nitrate ~0 nitrate 20 and my ammonia was between 0 and .25... i can see that the ammonia was higher than i want, but could that be the cause. Needless to say i went and changed another 7 gallons of water using stuff for the lfs.

Anyone got any other tests that i should perform to help me sort it out. Think another water change in 2 or so days should be called for. I'm kinda stumped cause my numbers seen ok..

You have ich, the stress from the water change possibly caused it to outbreak.

There are multiple threads here dealing with ich so do a search for it and you will find your solution.

Basically, get cupramine that's what I've used. Get the fish out of the main to a treatment tank. Treat them with the Cu in the hospital tank. Your main tank must go fallowless for 4-6 weeks.

Well i lost my clown, parrot and flame angel all due to the ich and prolly the stress. But my other 4 fish seem to be ok and show no signs of anything... does this mean that they prolly aren't infected. Any signs or symptoms i should be looking for. they have no spots and are eating whenever i feed, which is something the other 3 did not do for the past 2 days.

They are most likely infected. Could have gotten to their gills or any number of things. Signs to look for, change in behavior, fast breathing, loss of color, loss of appetite and of course the white spots.

your fish will get sick and die when ammonia is present. ammonia is a irritant. ammonia basically reduces the protective slime coat on the fish. when that happens the fish are very susceptible to disease.

I don't know that ater changes would cause you fish to stress I agree sounds like ick, also how long have you had the angel?, there hard fish to keep from what I understand, they are beautiful but I never had any luck with them, I've been doing triggers and tangs
I aslo had a problem a few weeks ago, I live in Florida and we had no power due to the storm for almost two weeks, I kept my fish alive by a battery air supply but when the batteries died a day later I was in trouble as no stores here had power and they were closed ,the ones that did have power and were open were not worth anything as things like milk-ice-meat-water and batteries were like somthing that did not exist ,could not find them any place, the worse part was I was trying not to use up to much fuel as there was no gas to be found so I lost 7 out of ten fish, was a sad time for me
I found coper safe works good for ick and several other things like velvet and ect

Well i only set this tank up about a year ago and the flame angel was one of the first "real" fish i put in. Never had any problems with him until this ich outbreak.

    Red face

How long should the spots last in the same area? I read the life cycle on the ICH parasite. Could it take multiple weeks for them to fall off? And if so would a Fresh Water Dip help? Thanks!

fulmetal do a search on here about ich and you will find out all the information you can handle. Basically they don't just fall off they are still around.

Yep, I have done tons of reading on the "ICH" set up the Q tank and moved all fish to it and dosed with CU. I will do the 6 weeks and see what happens. Will a fresh water dip help in any way?
