Chromis viridis is in the damsel family and so are clownfish! It is possible that some of them might get semi-aggressive when they are larger but they are not considered to be an aggressive species. They are certainly not considered as aggressive as say Centropyge spp. angelfish.

It's all relative but if the LFS dude was trying to claim that Chromis viridis is more aggressive than Centropyge nox, then he's nuts! Any of the Centropyge angelfish would be considered more aggressive than Chromis viridis. So that argument doesn't hold water.

Did you explain to the LFS dude that your tank is not yet mature? Did you explain to him how long it has been set up? Because if you did and he recommended a Centropyge angelfish as suitable for your tank at this stage, then he's nuts again! It is best to wait at least four to six months before adding Centropyge angelfish because they are more sensitive to water parameters than hardy species like Chromis viridis.

Fortunately you are not considering making this tank a reef tank at any time in the future because if you told the LFS dude that you might want to consider turning your tank into a reef tank later on, then he was nuts a third time for suggesting this fish: http://www.fishbase.org/TrophicEco/F...ge&species=nox

I don't think the LFS guy gave you good advice. Did he actually have some C. viridis available but suggested that the C. nox was a better choice for your particular situation or was he actually out of C. viridis at the time and suggested C. nox as a "better" alternative?

    Good luck,

    Ninong

Ninong is on the money in regards to the Green Chromies being in the damsel family but the blue/green are much less agressive if at all. They are noted to be agressive in situations where there is one or 2 of them but not always. I currently have 2 greens and they love each other and love to follow the tellow tang around.

A perfect fish for starting out with.
