Definately online. But yes, the LFS was definately for fish and certain pieces. Believe it or not 2 or 3 LFSs in the area (around 1.5 hours driving) actually have more unique pieces than online.....SOMEtimes. But most of the time, online is the way to go. But as Gene mentioned above, you don't want to buy this awesome frag for $10 or $15, and pay $35-50 to ship it.

I hear ya there. It's largest benefit is if you have $150 to drop at one time. 5-6 corals, $30 for shipping and done. Problem is, LFS can get a nice piece you may not find anywhere any cheaper, so you spend the $30-75 on it and no shipping. That's good.

But at today's gas prices, you may as well pay shipping.

Chicago

For those of us in the Chicago area (am I the only one?), there are several good lfs (and many bad ones). I've only purchased livestock from a few lfs, my favorite would have to be tropiquatics... they keep their fish the most humanely, and are definately the most knowledgable. I've looked online, but I just can't justify paying the shipping charges.

I get all my livestock from an LFS. I just have to drive 225 miles to get there.

Yeah but I'm sure it's a good one Charlie. If I ever get out west I'll be sure to visit our friend.

Lfs

I get all of my stuff from That Pet Place/That Pet Place in Lancaster, PA. They have a HUGE selection of fish and corals. They're only 45 mins from me. They ship too, but it doesn't make much sense for me to do that. Here's the link, they don't have half the selection online that they have in the store.

Be sure to check out the Red Rhinopias Scorpionfish AKA Eschmeyer's Scorpionfish, I've seen this fish in person, it's awesome, but I'm not sure it's worth $650

I have this same problem, I recently moved to a pretty rural area of Northern MI and had to make a 4 hour round trip to get some goods. To top it off the prices at the place were nuts although I did get a fair price on some pretty nice looking cured LR.

I made my first online purchase for live goods the other day (arriving early next week), I sailed well past the minimum $ amount for free shipping, hopefully it works out well. Even if I did have to pay shipping I think it would be worth it because I really hate the 4 hour drive.

I get my fish from the LFS, most of my corals through trades, and either collect my inverts in FL and HI or buy them at the LFS if I have to.

I buy my livestock from the Internet (www.platinumreefs.com) but the place they come from is like 5 miles away from me. So I get to pick them up and save on shipping. Very nice stuff there.
