Algea
I think most algea is good, but I was wondering about the brown algea in this picture? I think the bright green is ok.
I'm also having a lot of Dark Green (almost black) algea growing on the sand bed and on the plastic items & air lines. I don't have a picture of that right now. I'm also getting alot of air bubbles under my sand and on the walls of my tank. I do have a couple of airstones running all the time. Is that going to be a problem? Thanks for your help. Jerry |

The brown algea looks like it may be red cyano bacteria, note the bubbles in it under the yellow tang in your picture, this is common with red cyano bacteria, or red slime algea as it is called.
A little green algea shouldn't be a problem in a fish only tank, in fact you will find some here on Reefland that think its a very healthy thing. Sounds like you have alot of proteins in your water?? Is there a chance you could be over feeding?? The air bubbles under your sand bed are gasses forming from protiens being broken down. If it is a problem algea like Cyano, there are some products like Boyd's Chemi-Clean that will clear it up fast and is safe for your fish and anything else in your tank. Questions for you : What size is your tank and what kind of filtration and lighting are you using?? What else lives in your tank?? Why do you have airstones in your tank?? Also be aware that mixing a Yellow tang and a Sailfin tang is not a good idea. Both are very territorial.
