I'm Transfering All My Lr From My 20h To My 29h. There Was A Lot Of Hair Alegea. Right Now I Am Brushing Off As Much As I Can And Put It To A 10 Gallon With Lots Of Flow. Would Putting The Lr Into The 29 To Cycle. Would This Process Help Fight The Algea Problem? Im Using New Water Ro Saltwater. Would This Be Ok?

any recommandation. right now i set up my 29 with dry sand saltwater and a power head, heater.

i dont see a problem with it.. but i doubt you will get rid of all the hair algae?

Hey Rp, long time no hear!!! It is a good idea to remove as much as you can, but like salt said you will not get it all. Try and find the cause, most likely overfeeding, and try and change it... That way it will not ALL grow back in your new tank!

right now i remove most that i can and there are still little trace of hair algea. but i put in in the 29 gallon. so hoping during the cylce period will help get rid of the algea.

I don't understand what you mean when you say "the cycle period"? If this rock was in your 20 gallon tank for a length of time for hair algae to grow on it, it was already in water that was cycled so it is considered fully cured. The 29 is not going to cycle unless you put a lot of new uncured liverock in there and if that was the case, you wouldn't need the rock with hair algae on it. I'm confused??

Sorry For Confusing You. With The 29 Gallon Is A New Setup With Fresh Saltwater Made For Ro. I Strub Most Of The Lr In My 20h And Transfer It To The New Setup 29 Gallon. So Shouldn't There Be A Little Cycle For My Water Due To My New Setup. I Know That My Lr Is Fully Cured. Hopefully That Helps. I Just Have A N.o Light 20 Watt Daylight And 20w Actinict. Should I Leave It On For Just A Few Hours A Day Or The Full 10-12 Hours. I Want To Get Ride Of The Algea So Lowering The Light Cycle To 2-3 Hr Will Help. This System Is A Fish Only. And There Are No Fish In It Right Now. I'M PLANNING TO CYCLE IT WITH TABLE SHRIMP.

There is no need to try to cycle the water, the fully cured liverock makes the tank "cycled". When people talk about the intial cycle for a new tank, they are talking about building the appropriate bacteria populations that will convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate (as you know, nitrate is another problem). The liverock you transferred from your 20 gallon should already contain these necessary bacteria populations hence, no cycle.

As for the light cycle, the algae is not caused by the light, but fed by a nutrient source (excessive nitrate). You can reduce the photo period, but that is not the cause of the algae.

hahah i learn something new. thankx for the head up. right now there are no excessive nitrate in my tank right because i'm not feeding the system? should i set up my cleaning crew right now like snails to clean the algea like tubo. i'm planning to go skimless and do a 5 gallon water change a week

i would transfer it all... if you want buy a few snaills to graze..
when you scrubbed the live rock.. did you do it in Fresh water or salt water?
If you did it in fresh water.. then you will prolly have to recycle everything..........if you used salt water.. you will be all set...
if you buy snails.. you will still wanna feed them something.. cause you wont have much for them really...
