flame scallop
i got a flame scallop, and i was hoping to add some butterflies or dwarf angels. I know that it depends on the fish its self but if anyone has any dwarf angels or butterflies with a flame scallops i think it would help me out. and if any one had a boston bean with a cleaner shrimp, please tell me the kind of fish and size, thank you.

I wouldn't plan on the scallop being around long term, even if the butterflys don't go at it. They have a very poor survivability rating. If you have live rock in your tank, it may be hidden most of the time while it does survive. They won't stay where you place them and have a pretty good means of mobility.`

I agree with rayjay. Unfortunately it will begin dying as soon as you get it. The flame scallop (Lima scabra) is really not a scallop, they just call it that. It's a free-roaming file clam. It's a filterer that feeds on microscopic phytoplankton and bacterioplankton. Be sure to watch it and remove it quickly if it should die to avoid problems.
It is a shame that these things are collected. I noticed on Drs. Foster & Smith's website that they advise feeding each individual specimen phytoplankton with a pipette. That won't work unless you plan on feeding it 20 or 30 times a day around the clock. They filter feed constantly and are incapable of processing large quantities of food all at once. So whoever wrote that advice doesn't know what he's talking about. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...=23&pCatId=559 P.S. -- Run a search on the board using "Lima scabra" for other threads on this topic. If you run "flame" you'll get too many hits for flame angels and flame hawks. ![]()
