I love these fish! They have a cool personality, I have only had them for 3 days. They hid for the first 2 days. I saw them the first night; then they were gone for two days. Is this a common attribute of these fish. Oh I have two of them, I think one of them is a female because of the fin near the anus is very small compared to the other one?

Those fish are COOL, but you have to take some precautions with them. They are notorious jumpers, so make sure you have a top of some sort, and they stress out easy when you have other fast moving aggressive type feeding fish...

). On my new corner tank with no suspended lights I have no top, what fish should I beware of? I would hate for one of them to jump out and my two dogs come and have an early dinner (I Currently have a Bicolor Angel and a Maroon Clown) (oh yeah, forgot to say, I like your avatar!)

Thanks, on the Avatar. I took that picture about 10 days ago. It is my male A. Ocellaris, but his rearmost stripe is turning black.... CAn't figure that out.
Anyway on the list of jumpers the other fish that comes to mind right away are Anthias... and Wrasses... Other then that I don't know of any obvious ones, I am sure there are PLENTY!!! Just ask and research FIRST (and NOT at the LFS) before you BUY!! |

I have not had problems with firefish at all. They are all so, happy i guess, and are always out darting around. I do not have my tank covered. The funny thing is, i woke up one morning to find a blue damsel laying on the floor dead. What a joke that was. But i would say if you arent constantly chasing fish around in your tank with a net, you should be all set with the jumping part. I am constantly in my tank adding new corals and moving corals and macro-algaes around and i have'nt seen him jump. Now about the hiding part, its the same way with my dads tank, they hide for days, you never see them eat, and then you just end up finding them dead. I really dont know why this is, but you aren't alone.
