Question DSB for FO tank?

Is it a good idea to do DSB in a FO tank? The inhabitant include: a pair of perc clownfish, a zebra moray, and a puffer(~5").

What do you think?

I would go with the dsb. I think most will agree that a dsb hosts many different critters and diversity is the key to stability . The more diversity you have in sand beds , rock and livestock the more stable your tank should be .You also get the denitrifying capabilities .

the_blue_tuna-Thanks for the reply. My concern is the fish might disturb the sandbed and interupt the anaerobic nitrification. Am I getting it right? Would it still be a good idea to have a DSB then?

Sorry, forgot that little point...
THe puffer might grab critters that made it to the surface or near the surface. But they don't burrow, I've only seen them shoot water on the sand to stir it up a bit, can't remember what species that was though. even if, that'd only disturb maybe the top .75" so you'd be safe there.

That better?

Here are a few articles on sandbeds you can read. I dont think you have to worry to much about disturbing the anaerobic bacteria .By the way ,,,when you have a spare minute or two fill out the tank info in your profile. It makes it much easier for people to answer questions quickly as all your info is already there. Well enjoy the reading . http://www.wetwebmedia.com/livesand.htm http://sites.netscape.net/douglxyzzy/sandbed.html http://www.wyx.com/iheo/tank/live-sand.htm

You'll just have to be choosy with the kind of fish you stick in there. You can get fish that don't bother the sand bed at all.

Bioman-I am thinking to convert a current tank to a DSB. So, I already have the fish as mentioned in the first post. I just wanted to know if those fish will cause any trouble for the sandbed. But thanks anyway .
