Iodine Supplements Required for shrimp?

I was just curious if I have to do Iodine supplements for my shrimp? I have a camel shrimp and a cleaner shrimp. I do water changes with Red Sea salt but there is no information on whether there is Iodine or any other ingredients in the salt. I have had my camel shrimp about a month and my cleaner shrimp just a couple of weeks.

No.

There is more than enough iodine in the foods we feed. The problem, if any, is that most reef tanks have iodine levels substantially above natural seawater levels.

If you are concerned, buy an iodine test kit and see what your levels are. NSW iodine (iodine, iodate and molecular iodine) = 0.06 ppm. I have never measured levels below that in my tank and I have never added iodine.

If you add excessive amounts of iodine to your tank, you will cause premature molting in your shrimp. Excessive iodine is toxic to shrimp and they handle the toxicity by depositing it in their exoskeletons where it can be discarded by molting. In fact, excessive iodine is toxic, period.

to the best of my knowledge you shouldn't need to add any iodine since there is iodine in food that you feed the tank. I am aware of a study that was done where they tested tanks where people added iodine and tanks that had no iodine supplementation and from my understanding ALL the tanks had iodine above NSW levels, even the tanks that had no supplementation.

So long answer short, no I don't think you need to add iodine for your shrimps.

(heheh I guess you beat me to the answer Ninong, you must type faster than I
