Mantis Shrimp - "It's what's for Dinner"

For those who have had to deal with Mantis Shrimp killing your prized fish, I thought that you might enjoy knowing that the nasty little critters are in fact part of the "human food chain" in Indonesia. They're actually pretty tasty!

Hey NoSump!

Yeah people will eat just about anything. In Japan Puffer Fish and Lion Fish are on the menu (sushi) .... I can't remember which of the two or if it was another fish that need to be cut by professionally trained cooks so they don't poison their customers... I enjoy eating sushi when I am in Japan but pass on the dangerous variety......

That would be puffer fish. Japanese sushi chefs must be licensed by the government before they are allowed to prepare sushi from puffer fish.

Puffer fish contain Tetradotoxin in their gonads, liver, intestines and skin and rarely in their muscle tissue. Some species are more toxic than others and toxicity varies seasonally becoming more toxic during the spawning months of May and June, so now is not a good time to try puffer fish sushi.

Tetradotoxin is what makes blue ringed octopuses so dangerous.
