I started a 155gl, live rock & live sand. I have been cycling it for the past 4 weeks & everything has zeroed out, I never really had a major spike, but I did have some readings of amm, trites, trates & PH.
I have just put my first fish in 2 day ago ( juv.Emperor) he seemed to be doing fine the first day (ate, swimming around & interative with the family),but now he won't eat any food I give him (scrimp & marine flake) although I see him picking on the live rock, could this be enough? I know they can be difficult to feed at first, but he was eating the first day.. please HELP!!! |

homeangler,
Welcome to Reefland!!! ![]() I have noticed that some fish seem to take a little bit longer to get used to their new homes than others. So it could be stress. Did you acclimate him properly? Since I am not to familar with fish I recommend to check the resorces post here: http://www.reefland.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14941 there are some good links that will give you info about the fish to include feeding habits. I hope that helps a bit... Hey Kevin, Can you elaborate on this a bit? Thanks!

Angelfish in general are not good additions as a first fish for a couple of reasons. First they are rather delicate and require a well-established tank (6 months). Second they (once settled in) can become quite aggressive towards other fish introduced later. The best method IME is to introduce the smallest most timid fish first. That way when the more aggressive fish are introduced they are the newcomer and usually leave the more timid fish alone.
To do well long term most angelfish need a varied diet containing seaweed, sponge, plankton, shrimp, krill, and vitamin enriched frozen foods. Try leaving a seaweed clip with algae attached to it in the tank for it to pick at. The large angels can take up to 6 months to acclimate to tank life depending on the individual. IME your fish is one of the most intelligent fish on the reef. They can identify their keeper from about 6' away and also their food dish. They can also click and grunt to call you to the tank. Provided the right environment they can live 50+ years. Regards, Kevin
