HAHA! take that blue devil!
We have had a blue devil damsel in our FO tank for ever, cant get the little bugger out, all his little damsle buddies are long gone but still he refuses to be caught and taken back to the LFS. He occasionally picks on the smaller fish in our tank (green chromis, saddle back puffer, clown) and yesterday we added a coral bueaty to the mix. well for the first few hours the damsle went after the coral bueaty like it was it's job so we dicided to turn the lights out and just let them settle down and low and behold, this morning, the coral bueaty is swimming around like nothing and the little damsels is scared to come out of its hole. Every time it does the coral bueaty goes after him, finally getting a taste of his own medicine. WE are going to break the tank down probally during the next water change and try to get rid of that blue devil once and for all.

Of the six damsels I had to get out of the 100 gal tank, only one fell for the coke bottle trick. However, it was a blue devil. The other blue devil swam in and out of the coke bottle like it was some sort of game. I ended out taking all the rock out of half the tank after putting in a divider. That was an experience I NEVER want to repeat.

Tale a small (maybe 20 oz) coke or water bottle, of course it has to be plastic. Cut a 3 side trap door in the body of the bottle. Then cut the top of the bottle off at the shoulder and invert it into the body, so you put the head and neck of the bottle facing in. Sew it together with fishing line or figure a way to clamp it together with plastic or sealent. You can also tie a piece of line around the bottle and drape the weighted end out of the tank, so when the fish is in, you don't have to reach into the tank to retrieve the bottle, just pull it out by the line.
Put some nice tasty food in the bottle, via the trap door. Place the bottle in the tank, trap door on bottom. The fish will swim through the small opening to get the food, but because it's inverted, usually can't figure out how to get back out. You can poke small holes in the bottle for water flow. Take the fish out through the trap door after you catch him. hope that discription makes sense. ![]()

Thanks Bughead,
Your discription is clear enough. I will try it and let you know when I succeed. Karun |
