Unhappy need help identifying mysterious invertibrate growth

i have a 29 gal. species tank with a female green wolf eel. i have 25 lbs premium fijii live rock, carbon filtration and a cpr backpack skimmer. my tank has been set up for a little under a year. recently i have noticed these globbs of white growing on the back of the glass. in about a week after i noticed the growths they started to elongate into tubes. the tubes are hollow and there are featherduster like apendages. these things have spread all over in my filters and skimmer. they feel like sponges. i also noticed that when i left for a weekend and had someone feed my eel, they didnt scoop out the leftover shrimp and it was rotting and floating at the top and the sponge things were attatched to the rotten food. i cant find anything in my books about this phenomonon and im not sure if i should treat this like a fungus epedemic or welcome the growths. please help.

Yes I ditto the picture request.

There are many different organisms that hitch hike in on the live rock, most of which are benificial. So don't panic just yet. Even in our aquariums reside critters that have not yet been scientically described......
