Ich update
Four weeks ago I had a serious outbreak of Ich. All my fish had it pretty bad. Especially my purple tang. I have a reef/fish 240 gal setup. I used a high quality UV sterilizer, liquid garlic in the frozen mysid shrimp, and lastly I go a pair of blue neon gobies. Four weeks later there is not a sign of Ich anywhere.
It looks like this has been a successful bout with ich this time. Last edited by hotdoggddo; 09-25-2005 at 04:27 PM. |

Just for precaution's sake I am going to leave the uv on for two more weeks. It does feel good at this point that its gone. I am hoping it stays gone. Thanks everybody.

I've heard that UV is not effective at eliminating ich. It will reduce the number of parasites, but not completely. Just keep a careful eye on the tank for a while. Maybe the combination of garlic and UV will work. I never heard of using neon gobies for ich. Most cleaners aren't interested in ich.
Good luck. My ich battle has not been fun, but at least it is confined to my quarantine tank. |

I am not scientific about all this. I have seen a real success so far. The ich was really bad and its gone now. Using these three in combination is the only thing I have done differently. I will post an update next month. It may have been only one of these. Thanks for your reply and interest.

I am not sure if the UV helped or it was a coincidence. IMO, the UV kills off many of the "good stuff" found in the water. I have used the UV before, and now don't. I would tell you that I did NOTHING different. Everything looks happier.
But, I HAVE read others that say UV helped kill off the ICH. So....I would not say anything against it in that respect. Either way, good to know it's working out. |
