Question MA - Tropic Isle Aquarium

I am getting ready to stock my new aquarium and have been working with Tropic Isle Aquarium in Framingham, MA. I have been very happy with them thus far and their staff has been very helpful. After reading the quarantine article and a couple of books I know how important it is to pick healthy fish (I do have a quarantine set up by the way). I am wondering if anyone has any experience with purchasing fish from this store and what your thoughts were?

Thanks,
Nikki

Hi Nikki!

I live in Worcester County, MA and have purchased from Tropic Isle. About 6 months ago I bought my first saltwater fish from them, a clownfish (Ocellaris amphiprion). He is doing well to this day. I've also bought several Turbo snails, which are also doing well.

They have a beautiful store, but may be a bit more pricey than other stores as you move West (toward Worcester). Also, the owner tried to convince me to buy an additional filtration system (beyond my skimmer and live rock), but I resisted. So, just watch out for sales pressure. But I think the quality of their stock is superb looking, and the best variety you will find around. Also, the staff seemed pretty knowledgable. Check their web site for discounts (as well as the yellow pages), as they often have a deal going (helps take the edge off their slightly higher prices). Just be sure to research before buying, and ask lots of questions! This site is great for that!

Good luck!
-Jason

Ooops. You're right. I must have been typing upside down, looking in a mirror.

Thats what I get for responding while watching our 2 year old!

Thanks for the additional information on the store Jason :-) I will research and buy with a higher level of confidence.

Hi Nikki. The store is great. Can be fab. Jason is right though, you have to watch potential sales people there. And the prices are on the higher side of the scale on many things. But, judge what you are looking for and see if it's worth it to you. I can't remember the guy I dealt with more often than not, but he's got straight long hair in a pony tail. Knowledgable as heck.
