    Question Quarantine clowns not eating

I purchased two tank bred Percula (really ocellaris) and introduced them to my quarantine tank 2 days ago. I purchased food reccomended by my fish store, Formula Two flakes by Ocean Nutrition, and some forzen brine shrimp. I started with flake and they didn't seem very interested although I thought maybe one was eating it and spitting it out. I then tried brine and they seemed to try it and spit it out again. I tried flakes again just now and one was quite aggressive about chasing the flakes and trying them, but continually spits them out. It seems hungry, but won't eat what I am offering, any idea?

    Thanks,
    Nikki

P.S. They both seem healthy, active and well colored except one has a back white stripe that actually has a gray tint to it.

If they don't eat for a few more days, maybe some live brine shrimp would encourage them to eat, and you could wean the clowns off of them. They aren't the healthiest food, but most fish seem to devour them. I've had QT fish that take a few days to start eating. Good luck!

Just tell your wife that having a tank teaches you all sorts of new DIY skills...which will save lots of money around the house...so you can buy more stuff for your tank...so you can learn more skills...

I think it is quite normal for a new fish to not eat what is being fed. If they are not eating after 4-5 days is when I would worry and try something different. Some people report that a little minced garlic is enticing to fish so that might help a bit. I wouldn't worry for now and just keep introducing a very small amount of what you have a couple of times a day, they'll come around.

    Hey!

You can always try Formula One Frozen cubes. I think most fish will eat that. I believe that adding more than one type of food is more benificial for the fish. I make a mixture of freeze dried plankton, formula one, nori, mysis shrimp, minced garlic.....

Thanks Greg, I called the fish store and they said they were feeding them Formula Two frozen food (not the flakes the sales guy sold me!) so I got this and the one who was trying so hard to eat is very happy!! Although you might have read my later post that one is now showing signs of velvet, saltware ich or something and he is still not eating :-(

Nikki, if you think the one may have ick, you should move it to a quarantine tank ASAP. It is better to have it isolated so you can properly treat it and reduce the chances of the others contracting it.

I am glad to here the other is eating well! It is always nice to see.....
