White film over l/r???

My new 40 gal tank has been set up for a couple of weeks now, today I noticed there was a white film over most of the l/r - kinda like the skin you get on a cup of hot milk if you let it cool down too long. It all came off easily, but now the water's gone a bit cloudy - what exactly is this stuff, and what caused it to settle on my l/r???

It sounds like you had a carbonate snowstorm. This is caused by ionic imbalance. The best way to fix it is waterchanges.

i had that all over my rock during the curing process, but after it fully cured and water changes every week it went away.

Yeah, that's it. It's gone now, because I stirred it up and it all broke up, now I've got a secondary massive ammonia spike. I wasn't counting on that, but there are no fish in the tank at least, but there was one peice of fully cured l/r in there, out of my nano tank, with a small clam on it - I quite like the clam, so I removed that peice and put it back in the nano

All part of the curing process, and it will pass with time. Make sure you have good circulation, and water changes will help. Nothing to worry about this is normal.
