    Macro algae.

I have seen a couple of tanks with a light growth of algae in them, to me this looks really neat and I can see where this would benefit my tank. Is there an algae the would be reccomended and other to stay away from?

Given the right lite, just about any macro will do it's best to take your tank over. If there was one that I could suggest at all, it would be chaetomorpha, because it seems to stay in a rooled up ball. All in all, I personally think that macros are better left to the refugium. HTH

Because they can quickly over take your display and once it attaches to the rock, it is all but impossible to remove.

I second Reefland's advice. I speak with the voice of experience. There is a LFS that encourages people to put macroalgaes in the display tanks. I tried it. Within a month, I had macroalgae trying to send "roots" into my hard corals. The corals were NOT happy! Then when I added a refugium, the "roots" kept sprouting new plants. I'm still picking weeds out of my show tank!

I appreciate the advice, and considering my tank is a FOWLR, I may do it anyway. I personally think it looks nice and I believe that that added dimension could only enhance the health of my tank.

It also seems that with macro algae being poliferated in the refugium that nusience hair algae ect also seem stay there as well.....

One of the other LFS's in the area has a FOWLR tank that is overgrown with macroalgae and looks sorta cool... but there is no coral, no invertebrates and you can't see the rock to tell if there is any coralline algae... It is especially cool because it's major inhabitant is a big bright-red grouper... against the green background, it does look cool.

For a FOWLR tank, macroalgae in the display is fine.

Just tell your wife that having a tank teaches you all sorts of new DIY skills...which will save lots of money around the house...so you can buy more stuff for your tank...so you can learn more skills...

Like Steve said it is fine in the display... Some fish will eat it to keep it at bay.... If not you will need to prune it regularly....
