Hi rugerman,
I have heard of it before and the thought is that the skimmer doesn't remove the organics that need to be coverted during the nitrogen cycle. Personally, I would run the skimmer; I don't think it makes much difference.
the lfs told me not to run my protein skimmer for the first 2-3 weeks has anyone ever heard of this???? thanks for any info you can give me

I have heard numerous people recommend that very thing, but I don't see a good reason for it. I would get the skimmer running as soon as possible.
thanks for the help I got the skimmer back up and running
