    Yellowtail damsel.

    It seems like I may have a pistol or mantis shrimp in my aquarium but I never hear or see it. There is a spot that is continously being dug in one out. One of my damsels seems to hang out there a lot and I almost caught it doing the digging. Has anyone heard of damsels doing this?

    I actually use to have a blue yellowtail damsel that did that all the time,, He would wave his/her tail back and forth really fast and make like a little cubby or indent and sit in it all the time.....

    In fact, Maroone Clown fish will do this also. I have one in my 120, and he is real good at fanning the sand with his tail. I do not even bother putting the sand back anymore, for he will just fan it out all over again. If thats the way he wants it, let him have it.;;

    Hi John,

    What leads you to believe you have a mantis/pistol shrimp in the tank?

    I lost my Fire and Peppermint Shrimp, missing Hermit Crabs and Emerald crabs, with the latter's shells strewn at said spot, and dead snails and clams.

    All seem to be pretty delicate inverts, are you acclimating properly? How long are these things lasting in your tank?
