What kind of skimmer do you have and how is it configured in the sump?

I had an interesting experience with the Turbofloater 1000 multi. I installed flexible tubing to direct the output straight to the return pump's inlet pipe. It also placed the ouput under water in order to eliminate the sound of water splashing. Next thing I know the collection cup starts filling with wet foam really fast.

Apparently the tubing slowed the water flow leaving the skimmer thus causing it to back up.

Look at your skimmer outlets. Do they become submerged when you fill up the sump?

    Well,
It is a berlin turbo clasic, no tubing like you described, it just sits in the sump and skims. The only time I get the realy wet foam and it starts overflowing alot is when I put new water in.

I looked at the berlin classic picture at Marine Depot. Looks like you have similar outlet tubes at the top (but below the collection cup) of the skimmer as I have on my TF 1000. This is where the water leaves the skimmer and "falls" back into the sump.

When you fill up the sump, do these become submerged (partially or fully)? If so, then you are restricting the amount of water leaving the skimmer which in turns produces very wet foam (I learned this first hand with mine). If this is not the case, I can't help you.

Is this foam white or dark colored? If it's dark, you have a ton of DOC being pulled out - a good thing. If it's white/clear then it's not operating correctly.
