Feeding????
Curious to see how often everyone feeds there fish. I'm also curious what people do to feed there fish while on vacation. I travel a lot and am looking for a reliable vacation feeder.

I feed small amounts twice a day, specifically for my anthias. I noticed they kept wasting with less than that.
I normally don't go out of town for more than a day or two - if it's only a day or two, the fish seem to do fine without their normal twice a day. When I go longer, I prepackage dry food and set it out for the neighbor who feeds them once a day and tops off the tank. I have the dogs go visit friends. (I have several friends who trade dog sitting service.)

I usually average about 5 times per week. When I go on vacation, I'll feed them consistently for about two weeks and set up the automatic feeder with pellets. But otherwise, I feed one cube of Ocean Nutrition, varying from Formula Two to Prime Reef to Brine Shrimp Plus to VHP to Pygmy Angel Formula. Everybody eats everything, and between meals the fish will graze the rock or hunt for micro-crustaceans in the sand/crushed coral.

Thanks for the input thus far everyone...keep it coming.
CSeaSee - what kind of automatic feeder do you have? Just a plain jane from petsmart? Are you able to adjust what times it feeds or is it on a pre-set timer. The ones i've looked at feed twice a day every 12 hours which doesn't seem to make any sense. |

I feed 3 times a day. The feedings are relatively small, though. I have several planktivores that need frequent feedings to thrive. The fish are conditioned to be up and about by 7:15 AM looking for breakfast just with the light coming in through my back sliding door. I feed again when I get home from work and once more just before the VHOs go off for the night. Since my tank will have several butterflies and possibly some anthias in the future, I have been contemplating using an automatic feeder. I am going to wait until I see if I can get my copperband to eat some kind of dried food first.

I like to feed every other day this gives my two spot hogfish an appetite for bristleworms and added pests.

Re: Feeding????
When I'm home I feed 5 times a day. One is a pod feeding, two are macro algae, one is my homemade food, one is 'other.'
