A good idea IF and ONLY IF you make sure that the live rock you're adding is fully cured (minimum 3 weeks). Adding uncured or poorly cured live rock to a system with fish in it can cause a catastrophe.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

Ahh... I'd think twice about adding that angelfish to a new set-up, or a set-up with no live rock. Angels do very poorly in new systems, and your trigger may decide to make a meal out of it. I'd say slow down (a lot), do a little research, and ask a few more questions before you flush a lot of fish (and money) down the toilet. What sort of tank do you have? Please don't say there's an undergravel filter in there.

its not a new set up it has been running for about 9 months, it has a good amount of algae, I was just wondering about adding live rock, if it is beneficial and what the benefits are? I have a amiracle wet/dry filter with skimmer, no undergravel.

The benefits of liverock are the natural filtration capacity it adds. I would definitely add it but only when I knew for sure the rock was cured and would be free of any die-off once added to this established tank.
