sick mandarin

I have heard that mandarins release a toxin when they die - can anyone verify this? Is he to far gone to save him he has this long stringy mucus coming off of him in my hospital tank I was treating him for Columnaris but it might be to late.

He is still eating but not sure if he will make it.

I have Maracyn, Maracyn-Two and Coppersafe in the hospital tank are the mandarins sensitive to copper should I not treat with copoper?

I also think I read somwhere that Mandarins cannot get ICK(ICH) is this the case?

Thank You

Mandarins emit a noxious slime when stressed or under attack. I have never heard anything about them releasing a 'toxin' when they die.

Flexibacter maritimus is the causative agent of flexibacteriosis in marine fish. Flexibacter columnaris is the freshwater equivalent.

Mandarins are scaleless fish and very slimy. They are not as susceptible to ectoparasitic infestation as other fishes but they are not 100% immune. They are very sensitive to copper and formalin and these medications should never be used.

They usually do not get ich because of their lack of scales and noxious slime but this is not 100%.

My mandarin eats frozen brine I am very happy that is why I treated him because I knew he would not starve - he is a lot better he eats pods as well. Well I guess I should say better because I should not have treated him with copper.

He has this spot on the back of his head I think one of my fish bit him - It will grow back.

thanks for asking.
